Vanguard: Saga of Heroes Early Access to Live Servers Begins Friday, January 26th

Sony Online Entertainment and Sigil Games Online announced today that early access for Vanguard: Saga of Heroes will commence January 26 at approximately 10:00 a.m. PST.
Gamers who placed preorders either at retail or digitally will get to experience Vanguard: Saga of Heroes before the game’s official launch on Tuesday, January 30th.

Allt har naturligtvis löst sig nu. Man skapar ett sony stationkonto och börjar subskribera på Vanguard så löser det sig naturligt.

En ny PvE-server, Infinium har kommit upp i europa. Roliga nyheter att det behövs fler servrar redan innan den egentliga releasen! Vi befinner oss dock fortfarande på Gelenia för PvE.

The extended EU downtime of 4 hours still applies in order to finish the necessary hardware upgrades.

Det kom ett meddelande om det inne i spelet igår, där de sa att /claim f.n. är ur funktion, men att de kommer att fixa det inom kort. Då din preorder-key är registrerad så är det ingen risk att man går miste om någonting.

Vanguard Patch Notes 2/2/2007 for build 1733

GAMEPLAY NOTES

- Enemies will no longer be tagged by damage over time spells and attacks after you have died.
- Enemies will no longer show as “aggro” as the result of damage over time spells and attacks after you have died.
- You will no longer gain or lose faction from an NPC your group killed if you're not involved in the kill.
- You now receive an alert message each time you progress in ability learning for an ability, instead of only at the start and the end.
- Fixed a bug that was causing inflated PvP spell damage.
- Reenabled coin storage for banks. You can now drag and drop coin from your inventory into your bank. Note: Coin storage in banks is global, you may access your banked coin from any bank, not just the bank you deposited it in.

ADVENTURING

- Bard – Increased the movement modifier on Tynen’s Melody of Acceleration to 28%
- Bard – Decreased the movement modifier on Tynen's Coda of Velocity to 3% from 5%
- Bard - Decreased the movement modifier on Tynen's Strain of the Swift to 2% from 3%
- Druid - Star Mantle should now last three hits.
- Druid - Summon Ancient Colossus is now obtained at level 50
- Druid - Retooled the abilities on the Ancient and Elder Colossi.
- Necromancer - Adjusted the level at which Necromancers can obtain the Art of Death quest (Rest of the Dead) from Level 16 to Level 20. If you have previously completed this quest line and did not automatically learn Rest of the Dead, check your trainer and it should be available at level 20.
- Necromancer – Removed Claw of Stunning, Face of Fright and Face of Cowering from the game. If you had these items they will now show up as red circles with red strikes through them. Please delete these from your inventories. Sorry for the inconvenience.
- Necromancer – Renamed Poison Claw to be Poisonous Claw.
- Necromancer – Poisonous Claw should now be functioning
- Necromancer – Adjusted Poisonous Claw to the correct levels.
- Necromancer – Renamed Gouging Claw to Diseased Claw.
- Necromancer – Adjusted Diseased Claw to the correct levels.
- Necromancer – Diseased Claw should now be functioning
- Necromancer – Adjusted Sapping Claw to the correct levels.
- Necromancer – Sapping Claw should now be functioning
- Warrior – Most commands now have seconds durations rather than number of attacks or hits.

CRAFTING NOTES

- Crafting Advisors have more information! If you need information on crafting, visit your local crafting advisor.
- Fixed issue with tin rune of strength that was preventing it from working properly
- Updated etching knives to be flagged as the proper tool type
- Updated improved saws to be flagged as proper tool type
- Fixed issue with some bags that were not allowing you to put certain items in them
- Reduced drop rate on orbs drastically
- Removed Ladle from tables as it is not used
- Fixed issue with some repair tools not being recognized
- Updated all adventuring light armor base AC values
- Improved saw now acts like a saw, not a chisel.
- Khal trainers should now have the novice grip recipe.
- Kojan and Ahgram now also have merchants that sell unusual or special crafting items.
- Sharon Whelson will now properly change your trade if you are not an outfitter.
- Increased crafting skill gain.
- Added crafting gear upgrade recipes to Outfitter instructors.
- Adding raw resources to work orders now give quality increase.
- Leth Nurae taskmasters now pause much longer in their routes around the crafting area.
- Boosted faction rewards for the following crafting quests: Arming the Shaletooth Tower, Shaletooth Armor, and Shaletooth Weaponry.

DIPLOMACY NOTES

- “Sidestepping” is now a timed quest of ten minutes.
- Increase the Watch now gives an even better correct Accuracy buff.
- There are now Blackmail, Plots, Trends, and Arcana Informants in Tawar Galan, Qa Riverbank, and Dark Horse Downs for your Information trading needs!
- Ongoing deck fixes.
- Graag, Sassti, and Cassus now have a short leash – they want to kill varanthari, but not to the point that they’ll actually chase you across Lomshir.
- New Diplomacy quests added to Three Rivers.
- Janus Thunderaxe no longer thinks he has anything to do with newbie diplomats and should no longer offer any quests.
- The comedic troop, Three and a Half Fools, has made a stop in Three Rivers and has a few quests for curious diplomats.
- The Messenger Boots will now give the card “Well-Traveled Wisdom.” To get this card, right click the boots to put them on, and then right click them again to get the card. From then on, you can drag the item to and from your bag and retain the card. The card “Well-Traveled Wisdom” can only be played if you are wearing the boots.
- Coin values of Diplomacy clothing adjusted.
- Rarity values of Diplomacy clothing adjusted.
- There is now a safe path from the docks of New Targonor to the continent of Thestra. King Targonor Furth has agreed to open a corridor from the docks to the bridge to the mainland. Watchmen and Enforcers will allow ALL players to proceed. All House guards, and the King’s guard, will attack KOS races on sight.
- Martok – The bar fights and war drums have faded just enough for people to start talking again in the city of Martok. The civic diplomacy trainer is hooked up and ready to go in Martok as are the soldiers and crafters in the city. This will hit the Friday morning patch.
- Mekalia – The Gnomes have finally figured out what the upsiders call “Diplomacy” and have readily adopted the custom of doing what other people tell them to do. On Friday’s patch Civic Diplomacy will be ready in Mekalia for soldiers and crafters.
- Consequently, some gnome constables have grown confused as to what they should be doing: practicing swordplay, or talking about their feelings. The Downside is getting almost as confusing as the Upside these days.
- Information Brokers should now be asking for, and taking, the correct amount of information.
- The Civic Diplomacy Benefit “Right of Way” now is giving the right percentage of benefit.
- Clergy Civic Diplomacy now active in Tanvu.
- Academic Civic Diplomacy now active in Tanvu.
- Info loot drop rates adjusted.

WORLD POPULATION NOTES

- Rendjaw should now have the correct model
- Ants in the quest “Ants Underfoot” should correctly assist each other
- Luc Beou should now have a body (everyone needs one, after all)
- Dracosnap Hunters should now have the correct model
- Faction changes in the Coast of Ahgramun should now show the correct names
- Death text has been fixed for all Cult of Tauth supporters
- The Angoer Bunkers have had a speed tunnel installed.
- Pyromaw Cubs should now release their spiritual essence when defeated
- Bordinar’s Cleft – The Ridge Prowlers of Bordinar’s Cleft have had population adjustment to be much more in-line with player progression.
- Bordinar’s Cleft - Miner Youngsteel no longer speaks as if he is Miner Yulas in the quest “Ale For Grandir”
- Dahknarg - Adjusted aggro radii for several mobs on the road between Dahknarg and Halgarad.
- Dahknarg - Modified the Blood Howler Runner in Dahknarg. He's now more focused on getting his messages to the Bloodhowler camp and less focused on chasing people down--that is unless you have lots of negative faction with the Bloodhowlers!
- Evendusk Fortress - Moved the death location for the area around Evendusk Fortress closer to Evendusk Fortress itself.
- House of Fallen Leaves - Mailbox added to House of Fallen Leaves
- Mekalia - Ranged Weapon Vendor added within the gates of Mekalia
- Mekalia - Quests missing coin reward have been corrected to award appropriate amounts of coin
- Missive Boards - Missives are now selectable by the player and players are able to accept multiple missives at a time for the level range
- Missive Boards - Missives are now affected by a minimum level and a maximum level, players outside the scope in either direction are inable to partake in them
- Missive Boards - The Missive Task, “Task for Three Rivers: Road to Bordinar’s Cleft” now completes in the field upon meeting the requirements
- Missive Boards - The Missive Task, “Task for Three Rivers: Greater Stonesmashers” is now working as intended
- New Targonor - The New Targonor guard plowed the road from their great castle through to Three Rivers… much, much safer to travel on now for players of all levels!
- Temple of Dailuk - Overland population layout has been redone and thinned out some to make it easier to take more than two steps.
- Temple of Dailuk - The missive boards now lets you choose which and how many missives you want, according to your level. This change will soon be coming to all missive boards.
- Temple of Dailuk - The Caverns of Noztgha population has been adjusted to be more suitable for trio groups, rather than requiring a full group.
- Temple of Dailuk - Several quests have been added to the residents of the beacons. Look for those quest bangs!
- Temple of Dailuk - Quest: Deciphering the Journal no longer requires you to return to Archaeologist Palpe Rengoa and now only requires one writing sample. Once you have the sample, you must right-click it in your inventory to complete the quest for further progression. If you are currently on this quest, you will need to abandon it and accept it again from Archaeologist Palpe Rengoa at the Beacon of Hafeez al'Azzimat.
- Temple of Dailuk - Adjusted the loot rewards for finishing quest line in Caverns of Noztgha.
- Temple of Dailuk - Nerksawl has even less depth perception with his one eye and will aggro players at a much lesser distance.
- Themnwar’s Shield - Greatly reduced the spawn rate of “Stonebane” at Themnwar’s Shield
- Tursh - Additional delivery quest added in Tursh to help direct solo players.
- Three Rivers - Signs added to the path from Three Rivers to New Targonor
- Three Rivers - Removed grotesque means of accomplishing the “Arms” quests in Three Rivers
- Three Rivers - The quest “Outlaws: Rewarding Our Heroes” has been fixed
- Three Rivers - Saps associated with Barsagal’s quest lines now stack in amounts equivalent (or greater) to amount required for completion
- Three Rivers - Chickens and Sheep no longer appear with white names within Three Rivers
- Three Rivers - Clusters of Draven’s Outlaws have been adjusted to be more solo / duo friendly
- Quests - “Corrupt Cyclopes” has had some minor changes primarily to help lead players to the correct completion NPC

- You will now be able to abandon a timed quest.

CODING

- You will now see a message when a VanguardPlayers image is taken.
- 22 new socials have been added. Type "/listcommands emote" for a list of all socials.
- Half Elf NPCs will now play half elf sounds instead of Kojani human sounds.
- Item links should now always show the correct stats and equipment expertise for the person viewing the item.
- Auto Coin Split now defaults to on for groups.
- You should now no longer be able to mail items and coin to yourself. This was always the intent. You can still mail items and coin to alts.
- Items can now be sent as cash on delivery through the mail system. On the receiving end, players will get a confirmation for the total amount to take the item that includes the cash on delivery cost and the shipping cost.

GAMEPLAY NOTES
- You can now use rescues on allies behind or in front of you as long as there are not objects in the way (360 degree line of sight).
- Levitate physics have been modified. In open air, you now drop faster by default, and if you are looking down, you can drop even faster. You also no longer stop instantly (though you do stop much faster than our earlier beta implementation) and it should be easier to climb steps and slopes than it was before.
- AoE spells will no longer hit town NPCs.
- AoE spells will now acquire targets when the spell goes off (not only when the spell casting starts).
- NPCs that you have fought should now have their name color properly reset when you die.
- Added feedback messages to indicate someone is out of the PVP soft level range for awarding coin or infamy.
- Players now only have access to learned abilities belonging to their class.
- Enemies tagged by another player or group can no longer be charmed.
- When charming an NPC, debuffs and DoTs from players are now stripped.
- Varanthari Mount can now be used at level 7.
- Invisibility effects will now have the proper chance to wear off prematurely.

ADVENTURING
- Cleric – Fixed the particle effects on Renewal, you should no longer recast the spell every tick.
- Druid - Phenomena upgrades are now learned via use.
- Druid – Removed level 50 Phenomena from trainers.
- Druid - All phenomena of the same type should now be on the same refresh timer.
- Necromancer – Increased damage for claw grafts
- Necromancer – Removed broken grafts from loot tables.
- Necromancer – Added improved and new claw grafts to loot tables.
- Necromancer - Fixed the guardian’s taunt ability.
- Necromancer - Fixed the guardian’s auto attack
- Necromancer - Fixed the slayer’s auto attack.
- Psionicist – Timestop is now instant cast.
- Rogue - Completed the first pass on new rogue animations, particles, and sounds for abilities.
- Sorcerer - Amplify Destruction now increases damage by 50% instead of a flat 150.
- Sorcerer - Chromatic Barrier will now display 6 icons – one for each resistance type.
- Warrior - Taunting Strike II, III, and VI can now be trained.

CRAFTING NOTES
- Crafting Advisors have more information on specialization, tiers, and learning continental styles. More to come!
- Added additional Novice and Amateur armor recipes to Blacksmith and Outfitter instructors.
- Novice armor secondary component recipes are now given sooner to compensate for added armor recipes.
- Crafted robes should now have their continental effects properly attached.
- The cost of Exotic Goods has been increased.
- Fixed bug with Pocketed Artisan’s Cloak that was causing it to give more stats then what was displayed.
- Fixed issue with crafted bows that prevented them from working properly with some abilities.
- Halgarad blacksmiths now have to turn in the improved hammer for the last part of their novice quest.
- Striking dust is more powerful.
- Added a bunch of recipe scrolls to the work order rare tables for all trades and specializations.
- Fixed item level issue with crafted rods (were showing as 10 levels higher then they should).
- Spears of Hexes were corrected from spell focus to heal focus.
- The Kojan elemental jewelry quest is now non-repeatable as intended.
- Reduced the importance of station skill in reducing complication frequency.
- Corrected the description text on orbs.
- End actions have been adjusted and no longer show unnecessary item requirements.
- Arming the Shaletooth Tower quest should now ask for the proper items to be completed.
- The upgrade to bellows damage has had its name changed to remove any doubt as to who it is.
- Fixed armor recipe descriptions not displaying proper ingredient quantity requirements.

DIPLOMACY NOTES
- Envoy Wyria has rejoined the living, is no longer missing her thoracic and abdominal cavities, and will be dressed properly.
- Horselord Tarqar is now interested in parleying about Civic Diplomacy.
- Failure in Civic Diplomacy now takes faction in a scaling manner based on the skill level of the NPC… low skill opponents (skill 50-100) take very little faction, while high skill opponents take a large amount of faction on a loss.
- Speaker’s Mantle rarity increased to match other Collector’s Edition cloaks.
- Most Civic Diplomacy NPCs now have more reasonable decks between skill 50 and 100. Between skill 100 and 200 the difficulty ramps up, and above 201 the difficulty goes up dramatically.
- One Fell Swoop adjusted to match other Statements of its class.
- The quest “Unholy Dealings” in the Qaliathari newbie line should one again be working properly.
- The halfling quest, “The Face of Death,” will now properly force abandon when the 10-minute timer fails to alleviate confusion about incompletion.
- The Civic Diplomacy Trainers will now take two of any Hearsay to complete the quest, as opposed to only Blackmail Hearsay.
- Nalzen Hunt’lar will now give out the proper cards on the second Diplomacy Tutorial.
- Orcs and Goblins now have their very own set of horse quests upon which no one tries to kill them. See Governor Jalixfin to begin them.
- Corruption At the Embassy now has a corrected reward set.
- “Legend of the Blue Boar” and other quests now available in Three Rivers.
- Horse quests all have had their parley difficulties reduced to 50 across the board.
- Depressing Black Onyxes, Amber Rings, and Hilthorn’s Signet Ring are all sellable to a vendor now.
- Matters of the Hearth is now available to all players over 40 skill.
- Most horse quests are at a lower difficulty now.
- More quests have been added to the beacons in Temple of Dailuk
- Known issue: Some Informants are not behaving correctly.
- Known issue: Until next art update, some Diplomacy Held items will not appear on your character.
- Dark Elves - You can now learn the ability “Elocution” from Nalzen Hun’tlar in Hathor Zhi, previously he didn’t think you were worth the effort, but now he’s changed his tune.
- High Elves - Tanalion Atilmo, the Palace Seneschal, has decided to grace you with his wisdom of the Absolution statement. Go with the queen’s blessing.
- Gnomes - Praise the Underking! Upside Affairs has recently developed a new statement to use in their dealings with the upsiders. Commissioner Adnomid Epgar of I-4 will now teach you the Absolution ability
- Kurashasans - Ragan Fulgar is eager to teach you a new method of manipulating the people of Telon to the will of the Council. Ragan will now teach Kurashasan diplomats the statement Disillusion.
- Goblins - Governor Jalixfin has had enough of the Orcs bossing him and his allies around, he is willing to teach any goblin diplomat the statement Absolution in an effort to gain some semblance of control over his city.
- Orcs - Warchief Zowb is warchief because he is both strong and wise. He is willing to teach Orc diplomats the statement Resolution, to put an end to the bickering in the war council.

WORLD POPULATION NOTES
- Coast of Ahgramun - Creatures in the Coast of Ahgramun should no longer show as being stuck.
- Coastal Graveyard - More named have been added to Siren’s Rock in Coastal Graveyard.
- Gardens of Xia’Liu - The levels on the creatures guarding the path leading to the Gardens of Xia’Liu has been brought more in line with the beginning part of the dungeon.
- Hilsbury - Many population tweaks in Hilsbury to reduce agro/assist radiuses and tweak mob placement, especially inside the mansion.
- Hilsbury - Reworked quest rewards and added choice rewards to all 3 of the library book quests. The books themselves are also now tradable.
- Hilsbury - Tweaked drop rates and spawns rates of named mobs, specifically inside the library.
- Hilsbury - Temporary disabled the vampire curse quest while it is reworked. The creatures will no longer curse you, but if you already have the curse the effect will remain and do nothing for the time being. Stay tuned for future additions.
- Items - Meteor Shroud now gives stat bonuses.
- Lakeview - There’s a new soloable quest in Lakeview, “Halfling Bandits.”
- Landsview - NPCs within Landsview are now slightly higher in level and have appropriate appearances.
- Lord Tsang’s Tomb – The Legendary Weapon Quest from Lord Tsang’s Tomb has been adjusted to allow players to select which weapon they want to upgrade
- Lord Tsang’s Tomb – The Legendary Weapon Quest from Lord Tsang’s Tomb has been adjusted to allow players to upgrade all the weapons, one at a time.
- Lord Tsang’s Tomb - The Legendary Weapon Quest from Lord Tsang’s Tomb has been adjusted to not take Lord Tsang’s Key if you fail to kill the five generals.
- Lord Tsang’s Tomb - The Lord Tsang weapon quest has been fixed so the Inscribed Pillars will now no longer turn and face the player when initiating contact. They will also properly DoT the player.
- Lord Tsang’s Tomb - Tsang’s five generals in the final battle of the Legendary Weapon quest line should no longer unexpectedly despawn while players are doing the event. If they remain un-aggroed for 30 seconds, however, they will despawn and the encounter will end.
- Renton Keep - Renton Keep trainers now share the faction with the rest of the citizens.
- Renton Keep - - Aniike Willems should no longer have a fairy floating above her head.
- Temple of Dailuk - Quest: Find Apenlippe: The journal is now available on Apenlippe’s corpse.
- Temple of Dailuk - Quest: Bird Hunt will not update properly
- Temple of Dailuk - Quest: Savory Meats: The meat will stop dropping for players who finished the quest, and start dropping again for players who have not.
- Tharridon’s Quarry – Leashing issues have been addressed in Tharridon’s Quarry.
- Tharridon’s Quarry - Aggro and assist has been adjusted in Tharridon’s Quarry.
- Tharridon’s Quarry - The hobgoblin leaders within Tharridon’s Quarry now take a break from time to time (everyone needs to relax sometimes).
- Tursh - There’s a new soloable quest in Tursh, “Saving the Baron’s Deer.”
- Quests - The quests Rare Opportunity, The Final Assault, and Word of Scale have been updated with the proper Travel Journal Entries.
- Quests - There are many quests in game that will now appear as “Small Group.” Previously, they were less accurately marked as “Solo” or “Group.”
- Quests - Several repeatable quests have had their rewards reduced.
- Silverlake - The quest ‘Zarian Netherbeasts’ in Silverlake now requires only one Zarian Netherbeast to be slain.
- Vault of Heroes - Cave of the Urugog in Vault of Heroes has had its difficulty increased.
- Veskal’s Exchange – Many Kaon around Kaon’s Ridge in Veskal’s Exchange have become small group content.
- Veskal’s Exchange - The graveyard in Veskal’s Exchange should be more in line with the level range of the rest of the chunk.

GUI NOTES
- All sections of your recipe book will remain correctly populated after crafting.
- Bug fix: New group members will now see the correct current group loot mode of the group they are joining in their UI.
- The Name and Level Min/Max fields in the Find window will now work as intended.
- Long ability names will now show up correctly in the ability book.

CODING
- Eliminated some extraneous whitespace that was appearing in the chat buffer.

Game Update February / 07 / 2007

GAMEPLAY NOTES
- You can now type /portrait to upload your characters portrait to www.vgplayers.com
- Player Housing – Plot upkeep costs have been increased to their intended values.  Please make sure you have sufficient funds in your escrow account.
- Out of combat energy regeneration rates have been decreased to encourage the use of food. It is still faster than in combat energy regeneration.
- The critical hit weapon bonus on fast weapons has been reduced to 5%. The same rules apply for dual wielding giving you 2.5% critical hit bonus from the off-hand.
- Axes have had their damage range decreased. They now have the second largest range with the largest being lances, spears and polearms.
- Swords have had their damage range slightly increased.
- Short swords have been given the critical hit weapon bonus as they do light weapon DPS. They still retain their sword damage range.
- Challenge level 3 NPCs lower level than a player now give moderately more experience. Challenge level 4+ NPCs lower level than a player now give significantly more experience.
- Faction requirements have been lowered again based upon player feedback and our play experiences.
- Fixed a problem that was applying incorrect armor types to NPCs.  NPC armor should now work as expected, with warrior type NPCs mitigating the most damage, and caster type NPCs mitigating the least.
- Horseshoes now properly display and enforce their level requirement
- Mounts now properly display and enforce their level requirements
- Food now properly displays and enforces level requirements
- Expendables now properly display and enforce level requirements
- Barding now properly displays and enforces its item level requirements
- Fixed an issue with focus items that were causing them to have 0 delay
- The max range reduction has been removed from all store bought ammo
- Fixed several unattackable NPCs that may have somehow been giving faction hits
- Charmed NPCs now hit a damage soft cap in the damage range between challenge level 3 and 4.
- Charm duration on challenge level 4 and above NPCs has been reduced.
- Charm break chance on challenge level 4 and above NPCs has been increased.
- When an NPC is charmed offensive targets are now automatically cleared for all players targeting the NPC. The same is true for defensive target when the charm breaks.
- Charmed NPCs now have their name color changed and their targeting color changed for everyone in the area of the charm. The same is true when the charm breaks.
- Charmed NPCs now have normal pet out of combat regeneration when not in combat.
- When charming an NPC the caster will now also generate a very small amount of aggro on other NPCs in the area.
- When charm is about to wear off there is now a system alert to the master of the charm.

ADVENTURING
- Monks and Disciples - Monk unarmed critical hit bonus now matches that of light weapons. The disciple critical hit bonus when unarmed was only slightly decreased.
- Bard – Increased the cost of Swirl of the Tempest to the appropriate amount.
- Bard – Calming Lullaby no longer causes global recovery, is now instant cast and has had its energy cost increased.
- Blood Mage – Cleansing Symbiote no longer spams particles every 10 seconds
- Disciple – Lowered the heal portion of Blessed Wind.
- Disciple – Lowered healing on Endowment of Life.
- Dread Knight – Vengeance is no longer on next attack, it is instant.
- Dread Knight – Removed refresh timer from Abyssal Chains.
- Necromancer - Zealots should now deal the proper amount of damage.
- Necromancer - Zealots should now attack quicker.
- Necromancer - Acolytes now increase in power as you level.
- Necromancer - Bloodfeast and Transmogrify now have a brief delay before the hit point to energy conversion begins.
- Necromancer – The strength portion granted by Legs of the Colossus has been reduced.
- Necromancer – Added Fists back to Graft tables. These should now work correctly.
- Necromancer – Adjusted the pet direct heal down.  It now scales with current abomination hit points.
- Necromancer – Renamed Ribcage of Reinforcement to Sarcous Ribcage
- Necromancer – Sarcous Ribcage now grants AC only.
- Necromancer – Backbone of Strength is now Thewy Ribcage.
- Necromancer – Renamed Ribcage of Heartiness to Fleshy Ribcage.
- Necromancer – Fleshy Ribcage now grants CON only.
- Necromancer – Added Torso grafts to Necropsy tables. These should now function properly.
- Psionicist - Reduced the range on lure.
- Psionicist - All illusions should now turn you into the proper race.
- Psionicist - Mass Expansive Mind is now a group buff.
- Psionicist - Mind Wipe and Memory Shift should now display precise numbers for hate granted/subtracted.
- Psionicist - Simulacrum is intended to be an illusion for the entity it is cast on. It was a bug that other NPCs in the area gained aggro on the simulacrum. When the spell is initially cast other NPCs in area will gain a very small amount of hate on the caster. However, enemies that wander into range of the illusionary battle will continue past it thinking their ally is practicing its skills.
- Ranger – Grasp of Earth now actually uses the Alteration skill, instead of just claiming to.
- Ranger – You no longer hit yourself with Windsong for 0. This means it will no longer trigger Winter’s Cloak on yourself.
- Rogue - Updated all legacy rogue poison components to be cash items
- Shaman – Ritual of Sacrifice no longer incurs global recovery.
- Shaman - Tuurgin’s Vigor should now properly reduce endurance costs.
- Shaman - Tuurgin’s Vigor should now display correctly.
- Shaman - Throat Rip I and II should now deal damage over time as intended.
- Sorcerer – Energy Rift endurance cost has been fixed.  It is now significantly more expensive.  The previous energy cost was not the intended amount.
- Sorcerer – Chaos Volley now costs more energy to cast.

CRAFTING NOTES
- Crafting gear that gives a crafting tool mod will now correctly affect both artificer tool skills.
- Fixed issue that was causing crafters to get rewards an entire grade higher then what they were supposed to from work orders
- You are now required to have the appropriate novice training to take the quest to find the amateur trainer.
- Removed some duplicate recipes from trainers.
- The Thestran continental style quests should now function properly for blacksmiths and artificers.
- The crafting advisor now provides additional information on the following subjects all gleaned from user feedback: catalysts/enhancers, horse renting, toolbelts, crafting setup, harvesting in relation to crafting, trade recipes, attributes, skills, action types, and the importance of refining and finishing.
- Faction has been greatly increased for outpost work orders.
- Fixed issue with thrown items displaying wrong damage stats
- Fixed incorrect display name on enchanted iron horseshoes
- The Tursh Supplies quest now provides more trade-appropriate tools.
- Crafting stations have been added to Veskal’s Exchange.
- Crafting taskmasters have been added to Veskal’s Exchange.
- Tawar Galan now has crafting stations.
- Tawar Galan now has taskmasters.
- Dune Eagle Trading Company Apron now is able to be equipped by all trades as intended.
- Refining recipes have been reduced in level.
- The Khal refining taskmaster now pauses longer in his route.
- Khal now has the amateur grip recipe.
- Existing references to Youngtree in certain quests were fixed.
- Oranku Silverwolf should no longer have an error in dialogue.
- Utility pouches now properly display and enforce their level requirements
- Crafted barding has had its sell price lowered
- Crafted expendables will no longer burn a charge when you do not meet the level requirement
- Mount speeds have been fixed
- Crafting level is now considered in min levels for mounts
- Kanada Stormpeak should no longer disappear when moving around the shop in Tanvu.
- Tin maces are now available on Thestra both in cities and outposts.
- Artificer elemental training quests have had their overall experience reduced.
- Outfitters can now change specialization at most outfitter trainers!
- Artificers can now change specialization at most artificer trainers!
- Blacksmiths can now change specialization at most blacksmith trainers!
- More trainers now offer to help you switch trades.
- Fixed issue with thrown items that was affecting their damage. (For real this time)
- Upgraded damage of crafted thrown items across the board
- Moren will now discuss work outside of Ca’ial Brael
- Upped rate of orbs from deconstruction a small amount
- Halgarad artificers-in-training must now actually assembly the saw to complete the Novice Quest.
- The staves that are made for the style quests are now properly referred to as staves in the recipe name and description.
- Drogan and Davrin should be fixed for Luca’s Quest.
- Style quest NPCs should now train you properly and give you the quest updates.
- Skill requirements for Practice Iron Bindings have been reduced
- The names on Pristine Harvesting Helms have been corrected.
- Fixed item level issue with tier 1 and 2 crafted shirts
- Rarity will now give crafted items an innate level boost along with standard increase in power
- Fixed item level issue for all crafted breastplates
- Gwartak Clan Armor Recipe should now work properly.
- More Gwartak recipe options will be available earlier on.
- Baguette Healing Necklace of Defense has been fixed to use Specialized Defense instead of Summoning.
- Superior Oval Healing Necklace of Defense has been fixed to use Physical Absorption instead of Mental Absorption.

- Acid Tongue, Lascivious Intimation, Dogmatic Parlance, and Esoteric Reference have had their refresh timers increased.
- All Informants should give the correct items and remove the correct amounts of information from your inventory.
- The quest “A Trader for the Cause” is now available in Tawar Galan.

- A number of new lore-based dialogues have been introduced to Civic Diplomacy. Look for lore about the gods for the next few content updates (this one features Kaerellun, Gloriann, and Sartholas).
- Each horse quest line now has an interim quest available for those who have completed the horse delivery but are not yet level 10 and can take the quest on which you actually acquire your horse. If you have done the delivery, and are still grinding your crafting or adventuring to 10, return to where your horse delivery quest dumped you off (Naemsog Bunker, Dark Horse Downs, Tawar Galan, the Martok docks, Three Rivers, or Veskal’s Exchange) to check out this quest.

WORLD POPULATION NOTES
- Coastal Graveyard - Added additional quests to Coastal Graveyard in Thestra
- Dargun’s Tomb - Tweaks have been made to the quests around Dargun’s Tomb
- Falgarholm - Adjusted the difficulty on a number of NPCs in Falgarholm.
- Falgarholm – Added the repair option to the merchants at the Northern Border near Falgarholm.
- Falgarholm – Adjusted the wolf tamers in Falgarholm so that their wolves now assist properly.

- Choosing things in the Market search dropdowns will now appropriately narrow the options for other dropdowns.
- You may now click on the column headers in the Market window to sort by that column.

CODING
- Right clicking on altars will no longer bring up an inspect window.
- Fix for groups being disbanded when a member runs across a chunk boundary.
- Group members should no longer timeout from their group because the leader of the group moved to different chunk.
- You can no longer put bags into themselves. The space-time continuum is safe once again.

Memory Leaks
A small number of users have been reporting memory leaks. A lot of issues surrounding these should either be fixed or very much improved. Please continue to report any occurrences.

Character Appearance Issues
While they may not be entirely fixed in this patch, some improvements have been made. Please be sure to give feedback on this issue, should you experience it, on either the Technical Support Forums or the Affiliate Fansite forums.

Mob Warping
There were actually a few separate issues causing this and most of them have been fixed. If you do still experience any kind of mob warping, please be sure to let us know and provide as much detail as possible.

Hitching
We have made several fixes that should help eliminate some hitching. It is not eliminated completely, but you should notice some improvements.

We aren't just plowing ahead with 'new' content either. The entire code staff is doing nothing but fixing and optimizing. Content teams are split amongst refining current content, live content, and future content. The first real art patch is coming in a few weeks as well and it is brimming with fixes to asset placement, fixing floating deco, fixes for LOS and elevation issues, and a good deal of new adventuring areas.

Double Adventuring Kill Experience Weekend
It is hard to believe it has already been one month since Vanguard was released! We know it is not always easy to be the first to explore new lands, so as a big thank you to all those adventurers out there who did just that – this weekend will be a server-wide double adventuring kill experience event.

Event start and end times will correspond with the daily server restarts:
STARTS: Saturday, March 3rd, 5:00am PST (Friday, March 2nd, 8:00pm PST for Europeans)

Lite highlights:

- You can now gain skill both on success and on failure, instead of only on success. This should make gaining skill with weapons you haven't used before at higher levels significantly easier.

- Quests will now be colored in the quest log by their relative difficulty to your level.

Nightly Restart – Adventuring Class Ability Changes March / 08 / 2007

Game Update #1 is now live!


This update is larger than most patches and is a great opportunity to read the patch notes as we’ve added quite a few things!

Please Read: With Game Update #1 Customer Support now has an upgraded petition system to better assist players. As a result of the changes made to the petition system all open petitions have been closed. If you still have an issue that you need assistance with please re-petition the issue when you log into the game.

The following ability changes have gone live with today’s daily restarts:


ADVENTURE NOTES

- All Classes
   - Some attacks remain direct attacks.  These are intended to be lower in damage, but have alternate uses and should be less expensive overall.  These debuff, buff and are not intended to be used to be a main source of damage.
   - Players can now learn new abilities by observing their enemies.
- Cleric
   - Your finishing moves now all cost 10 endurance
   - Maul of the Gods and Maul of Divinity now use a percentage of weapon damage instead of being direct attacks.
- Dread Knight |
   - Increased the damage of Dark Bastion, Incite, Inflame, Shield of Fear, and Scourge.
   - Scythe of Doom now drains for 100% of the damage it deals
-Disciple
   - Increased the damage of Falling Petal, White Lotus Strike, Soul Cutter and Lao’Jin Burst
- Monk
    - Counter attacks are now cost free
    - Many finishing attacks were more costly than intended.  Endurance costs have been lowered.
    - Many attacks have been converted over to use weapon damage directly, either flat or percent based.  This will increase over all damage and give better returns when upgrading weapons and increasing strength.  Affected attacks are:
     - Ashen Hand
     - Crescent Kick
     - Dragon's Rage
     - Sundering Dragon Claw
     - Fists of Transcendence
     - Legendary Fists
     - Flying Kick
     - Kick of the Heavens
     - Thousand Fists
     - Three Finger Strike
     - Thundering Fists
     - Deadly Adder Hand
     - Celestial Kick of the Master
     - Withering Palm
     - Stinging Backfist
     - Steal the Wind
     - Quivering Palm
- Paladin
   - Stroke of Conviction now progresses differently to provide a more steady progression of hate.  The new levels are: 20, 28, 36, 44, 50
   - Maul of Valus has been added to trainers starting at level 18.  This is a new line of finishing attacks that follows Hammer of Valus.
   - Stroke of Fervor has been added to trainers starting at level 30.  This is a new line of finishing attacks that follows Stroke of Conviction.
   - Holy Strike and Blade of Vol Anari now deal their additional effects to fiendish races as well.  Ulvari hunters rejoice!
- Ranger
   - Increased the damage of Fleetblade
- Shaman
   - Claw of Winter is now a standard attack that uses weapon damage.
- Warrior
   - Increased the damage of Smash
   - Increased the damage and hate portion of Overwhelm

Vanguard Build 1792 Patch Notes 3/28/2007

NOTE: This patch is noticeably larger than previous updates because we are adding new art assets to the game. Look for more news about this coming soon!

NEW: Ever wondered what kinds of things the developers of Vanguard have in store for the game? Wonder no more! GAMEPLAY NOTES
- Fix for DoTs not working in PvP
- Experience rates for killing NPCs have had a significant increase.  The experience changes start as a small amount at low levels and scale up to a large amount in the early twenties. From then on the increase remains fixed.  This increase should be very noticeable for players 15+.  This change is in response to actual player leveling times not meeting our original target times within many different subsets of the player population.  This increase will bring us much closer to our goal without exceeding it.
- The cost to repair items with high rarities has been reduced.
- Amplifying abilities are now capped at 10 times original strength.
- Amplifying abilities no longer works for all abilities in the ability line. Diminishing returns still applies to everything in the ability line.
- If an ability is taken to full amplification strength it will now experience an extended refresh time.
- Lull type abilities now state that they have a chance to aggro on resist rather than leaving that information to be a surprise.
- All lull type abilities now have the same chance to be resisted.
- Player Housing: All existing housing permissions have been wiped to support new permission functionality.
- Player Housing: The information you receive from inspecting a plot, building, and construction site has changed. All information is now included in one UI window with tabs for each section. All players will now be able to get basic information about what they are inspecting even if they are not the owner of the plot or building.
- Player Housing: Permissions are now set for a plot instead of for a building. You can now specify various permissions for plots through check boxes. Mouse over the check boxes in the Create Permission window to get an over view of what the permission allows.
- Player Housing: Players can now give guild access via guild ranks to their plots and buildings.
- Player Housing: The permission system will continue to expand as more features are added to player housing.
- Player Housing: You now have the ability to recall to your house. Check your ability book under the general section for the new ability.
- Player Housing: You can now preview the required construction materials for a building type by clicking the "Building Details" button on the construction tab.
- Player Housing: Plot prices will now update dynamically. You upkeep price will no longer be locked in when the plot in purchased.
- Player Housing: Coin for upkeep is no longer entered as copper. A coin bar is now present with the proper denominations.

ADVENTURING NOTES
- Bard – Fox Overtakes Hare has had its damage increased, now roots the target for 6 seconds, has had its refresh timer dropped to 20 seconds and will crit much more often.
- Cleric – Anathema VII has been removed because it was a copy of Doom I.
- Cleric – Turn Undead now has the correct display numbers and floating text.
- Blood Mage – Conduct, the Conducive Symbiote granted ability no longer requires a symbiote to use.
- Blood Mage – Plated Symbiote now states how much damage it will return when you are attacked.
- Blood Mage – Conducive Symbiote and Quickening Symbiote can only be cast on a single target one time every 5 minutes.
- Blood Mage – Blood Feast is now a toggled ability. It has also been changed to work as an aura. This makes it go away when you die and work for multiple BMGs in one group.
- Blood Mage – Symbiotes are now soulbound
- Blood Mage – All symbiotes now state that there can only be one on a target at a time.
- Disciple – Fixed a display bug with Leech’s Grasp. It now displays the correct amount of endurance drained.
- Dread Knight – Fell Aura (dreadful countenance rank 3) no longer pulses on and off while it is applied
- Dread Knight – Dread Tide (dreadful countenance rank 5) now applies itself to the opponent as intended.
- Dread Knight – Slay now deals damage, roots your opponent, is usable at 20% target health, costs 30 endurance and crits 50% of the time instead of directly killing your opponent. Also has a 20 second refresh.
- Dread Knight – Slay now opens chains when it crits.
- Necromancer - Necromancer abomination no longer requires that all the grafts be reequipped after relogging. Additionally, if you log out with your minion still summoned, you will no longer have to recast it when you log back in.
- Necromancer - Monstrous Sundering Fist now correctly grants Sundering Fist IX. This increases the damage of the fist.
- Paladin – Vanquish is now more likely to critical.
- Ranger – Form of Precision no longer jumps to level 4 when you are supposed to be at level 3.
- Ranger – Moved Intercept I to level 12 and Speed of the Wolf to level 12
- Ranger – Fleetblade now costs 15 END, down from 22 END.
- Rogue – Knee Break now gives feedback when its used.
- Rogue – Ravage now actually exploits Mesmerized or Lethargic.
- Rogue – Shroud of Shadows is now usable only in stealth.
- Rogue – Fatal Stroke will now open attack chains on critical.
- Warrior – Shield Wall now increases block chance by 80% for 15 seconds and has a 10 minute refresh timer.
- Warrior – Commands can now be used out of combat
- Warrior – Smash has had its refresh time lowered to 8 seconds.
- Warrior – Riposte has had its refresh removed.
- Warrior – Riposte has had its damage increased
- Warrior – Blade’s Bite now costs the intended 10 endurance.
- Warrior – Offensive Stance now increases damage by 20%, accuracy by 10% and reduces mitigation by 10% (down from 20%)
- Warrior – Adjusted the level progression of Stinging Cut.  Levels are now 14, 22, 30, 38, 46
- Warrior – Stinging Cut V has been added to trainers.
- Warrior - Adjusted the level progression of Blade’s Bite.  Levels are now 30, 38, 46
- Warrior – Blade’s Bite III has been added to trainers.
- Warrior – Both Stinging Cut and Blade’s Bite now add an initial chunk of hate and some hate over time.  The hate is now applied over 15 seconds, instead of 30.
- Warrior – Commands have changed.  Single target commands and group commands no longer share a common refresh timer.  You can perform a single target command followed immediately by a group command with no delay.  All group commands continue to share a common refresh timer.  All single target commands continue to share a common refresh timer.
- Warrior – Group commands now have a refresh timer of 30 seconds, down from 45.
- Warrior – Strike Now has a refresh timer of 45 seconds, down from 60
- Warrior – Commands no longer incur global refresh
- Warrior – Defensive type commands now last for 8 seconds instead of 6.
- Warrior – Killing Blow has had its damage greatly increased, its endurance cost drastically reduced and it can now open chains on crits…which should happen often.
- Warrior – Increased the hate reduction on Withdraw and made it consistent across all upgrades.
- Warrior – Removed the mitigation penalty from enrage.
- Warrior – Battle cries are no longer tied to the same refresh timers.  Each can be performed individually.
- Warrior – Shout of Fury IV is now available at level 36 and Shout of Fury V is available at level 48.
- Warrior – Shout of Fury now lasts for a flat 12 seconds across all levels
- Warrior – Roar of Rage has a slightly different level progression to make for a more smooth progression of hate.  The new levels are: 22, 32, 42, 50
- Warrior – Roar of Rage IV is now available on trainers at level 50

CRAFTING NOTES
- Abandoning a work order will now remove all work order items related to that work order
- Kojani ship and house quests now require Kojani faction.
- A very high level quest concerning crafting catalysts has been added in Ahgram.
- Fixed description of second tier furnace failure as it had the description of a different attached to it.
- Adjusted the stats on cloaks with Melee Evasion.
- Diplomacy deconstruction quests have been added. They are available to tailors and weaponsmiths.
- Fisher’s Pen no longer gives a double-dose of Thestran Watch faction for a successful work order hand in. You should only get 10 Thestran Watch faction now.
- You will now see crafting and assembly recipes in the trainer list even if you do not meet the faction or flag requirements.
- Splitting a stack of crafted items will no longer cause the maker's mark to be lost on the new stack. You will also now be able to restack the items.
- Corrected a travel journal entry for the Understanding Nyi quest.
- Fixed some pieces of crafting gear that were set to the wrong rarity level.
- Rotten Material should no longer have an invisible AP penalty
- Gwartak Clan Shortsword should now raise shortsword skill instead of longsword skill
- Current furniture recipes are now available on outpost trainers as well.
- An addition has been made to crafting advisors that should now let you see the tutorial restart option if you are still level 1 or 2 in crafting and still did not see the restart option. This should solve all issues relating to players unable to continue the crafting training.
- Work Orders - Fixed issue with tier 5 work order tables that was causing cash items rewards to be replaced with the infamous “Ghostbuster” item.

- Diplomats with 1000 Prestige faction in one of the nine major cities on Telon can now trade in this faction for a unique title. Seek out the various rulers/administrators of the nine cities (King Mithdor, King Baran, Warden Iona, Magistrate Jadedragon, etc.) and speak with them to earn this title.
- A mysterious Prestige Altar has appeared on all three continents. Those who carry titles of great prestige can approach them, hoping for even greater title of honor and a gift of experience.
- Tier 2 Horse Quest available for diplomats on Qalia of at least 200 skill. See Haftan the Black in the main square of Ahgram. You must have completed the Tier 1 Horse Quest and have a young courier horse on your person to accept the quest. Haftan will supply one at no cost if you don’t have one. Side quests along the way will provide opportunities to acquire tack, horseshoes, and courier saddlebags as well.
- Tier 2 Horse Quest available for diplomats on Thestra of at least 200 skill. See Svena Remniol in the court of King Targonor in New Targonor. You must have completed the Tier 1 Horse Quest and have a young courier horse on your person to accept the quest. Svena will supply one at no cost if you don’t have one. Side quests along the way will provide opportunities to acquire tack, horseshoes, and courier saddlebags as well.
- Tier 2 Horse Quest available for diplomats on Kojan of at least 200 skill. See Poet Kan Ya in Tanvu to begin the quest. You must have completed the Tier 1 Horse Quest and have a young courier horse on your person to accept the quest. Kan Ya will supply one at no cost if you don’t have one. Side quests along the way will provide opportunities to acquire tack, horseshoes, and courier saddlebags as well.
- “It’s My Party” is now available in the Black Orchid Forum with Duchess Perthia Hilthorn for diplomats of at least 326 skill who have 250 or more faction with House Hilthorn.

WORLD POPULATION NOTES
- Beranid Downs - Overland population in the Beranid Hills, Fields of Despair and Plains of Anguish has been thinned out.
- Celestine Ward - The rare candle drop rate from NPCs deep within Vol Tuniel and Thelaseen has been increased.
- Jathred’s Twist – The back of Vault of the Hidden has received a named NPC and itemization pass.
- Jathred’s Twist - Morr the Mighty, Sharram and Zahn at the Minotaur camps in Jathred’s Twist should now drop the correct loot.
- NPC - Tishra the Blood Priest – Fixed a bug where the unattackable version could get aggro on players and attack them.
- Nusibe Necropolis – The Cleric/Paladin quests, Blessings of Vol Anari, have been fixed. NOTE: Players currently on the quest will need to abandon the quest. Also, players will need to delete the Mysterious Crystal and/or Crystal of Holy Blessings, and obtain a new one by re-entering the dungeon from the entrance.
- Nusibe Necropolis – Esprit Sparkles has been revamped. NOTE: Any Shaman currently on this quest will have to abandon it and start it again from the Dire Spirit.
- Nusibe Necropolis – Necromancers should keep an eye out for a quest-starting orb.
- Nusibe Necropolis – The Wrath and Spirit of Nusibe will now show face again, whereas before they never spawned.
- Nusibe Necropolis – Caress of the Dead no longer hits Clerics and Paladins. No really. This time it’s true!
- Nusibe Necropolis – The Sentinel of Nusibe will no longer assist other minions in the area.
- Quest – The Purification of Graystone – A two-handed maul option has been added to the rewards for this quest.
- Quest – The Purification of Graystone - Players who have selected the one-handed mace, the two-handed axe, or the martial staff will be able to permanently trade in their selections for the two-handed maul.
- Quest – Penetrating The Core – The components will no longer drop if you have the dagger made.
- Quest – The Purification of Graystone - The quest to exchange the one-handed mace for the two-handed maul will also allow players to exchange the mace for any of the other melee weapons.
- Quests – Weapon rewards for the quest The Purification of Graystone have been adjusted.
- Quests - A martial staff and a focus item are now available as rewards for the quest The Purification of Graystone. Any players who have already completed the quest and selected either the martial sword or the staff will be able to exchange them at the Spirit of Valor for their respective alternatives.
- Quests - Kill count updates for the quests offered by the Spirits of Vengeance will no longer occur at many times their intended rate.
- Rahz Inkur - Fixed a typo in a popup text alert
- Rahz Inkur – It should no longer be possible to accidentally activate beacons while not on a seal thereby causing them to vanish.
- Rahz Inkur – Certain NPCs within Rahz Inkur will now drop vials at an increased rate.
- Rahz Inkur – The number of beacons needed in order to activate a seal has been reduced to 15.
- Rahz Inkur – Vials, dusts, and powders can no longer be sold to vendors.   
- Rahz Inkur – The helm stats for the main questline have been adjusted.
- Rahz Inkur – 5 shimmering zull portal shards are now required in order for them to be activated at a seal.
- River Valley - Flowers in the river valley can now be looted without the item requirement. Drop rates and spawn rates have also been increased.
- Thelaseen – Ancient elven chests now have a chance to drop candles in place of a chance to drop armor pieces.

Items
- Cloaks, both crafting and adventuring alike, have seen an appearance pass to increase the variety of tints and models available.
- Level 41+ Adventuring Armor has seen a preliminary appearance pass; this should result in many new models and tints.  A future pass may be needed to consolidate tints from individual areas and dungeons.
- Low level Qalian Bows have had their appearances fixed/updated.

GUI NOTES
- Crafting steps will now show a progress bar for each individual action family below it so that you may more easily gauge individual progress and the effects of complications.
- Crafting action families will no longer sometimes stop refreshing or not appear as disabled correctly when they are complete.
- Added item compare to the UI, which activates by pressing Shift while examining an item. Alternatively, you can enable the new "Always Show Item Compare" setting for 24-hour pants comparison coverage.

CODING NOTES
- When the "Tooltips Require Alt" setting is enabled, hotkeyed items will no longer show their item examine info unless you are holding Alt.
- Fix for some instances of NPCs showing a small amount of health after dying.
- Responsiveness should be improved when targeting something with many buffs/debuffs. This was particularly noticeable when targeting another player in PVP.
- Fixed a bug that caused stacks of loot to be converted to a single item when auto-looted after a random roll. This was most obvious when randoming for harvesting loot.
- Updated our version of OpenAL to a much newer version. This should now properly enumerate your sound devices and allow you to choose your native device (such as an X-Fi sound card) instead of just using the generic hardware or software devices (which are still available). Remember that you will need to completely quit out of the game and restart it after changing your sound device (found in the Audio tab of our Settings window) for the game to start using that new device. We recommend that you make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card before selecting a device other than "Generic Hardware" or "Generic Software" and that you switch back to your previous sound device if you experience sound problems with the new device. You may want to compare sound quality and frame rate with each device to determine the best choice for you. If for some reason the game will not run after you have selected a new sound device, you can edit your VGClient.ini (found in your Vanguard\bin directory) and change the line that starts with "OpenALDeviceName=" to read "OpenALDeviceName=Generic Software" then save that file and try Vanguard again.
- Added new command, "/unlockcorpse", which unlocks the NPC corpse to the anyone in the world. You must be the corpse owner to use this command.
- Added new command, "/unlockcorpsetoplayer", which unlocks the NPC corpse to a specific player. If no first name is supplied, the defensive target is used.
- Added new command, “/decaytime”, which shows you the time left before an NPC corpse decays.

Jag teleporterade mig från Kahl till Ahgram, hamnade väl rätt men ca 100 meter upp i luften. Försökte väl skydiva lite åt vänster för att missa bryggan men, nepp Krashade illa och dödde på fläcken :)

- There is a new programmable shader caching system to reduce hitching. You will hitch a bit more than usual while programmable shaders are cached the very first time you see a different material type in game. This is the last time *all* shaders will need to be recompiled. Hitching should be greatly reduced afterwards.

So here's the first topic, starting with the current official statement from SOE:

"SOE is in discussions with Sigil regarding the future of Vanguard and Sigil Games in Carlsbad.  Talks are going well and first and foremost, our primary concern right now is what's best for Vanguard and its community.  We want to ensure that this game and its community have a healthy future.  The specifics that we work out over the coming days will all be with that single goal in mind."

What does that mean?  It means that right now Vanguard is doing decently but not as well as we hoped.  If you haven't read my last long post that outlined some of the things that went wrong during development, etc., please do. So the bottom line is that SOE is going to be getting more involved with Sigil and Vanguard - our relationship is going to become even tighter - much tighter.  At this point I can't say much more than that.

Does this mean an acquisition? I can't say at this point.

Does this mean more or less people at Sigil?  I can't say at this point.

Does this mean management changes at Sigil?  I can't say at this point.

What it does mean at this point is that both companies agree that we need more of SOE's involvement if Vanguard is going to continue to get the support it needs to both continue to be worked on and improved and debugged and optimized.   When people start getting burned out of the Warcraft expansion (pardon the pun), we need to make sure that the game is more polished and will play on lower end machines.  As people continue to level up, it means that we need additional higher level content, including raid content.  If we are going to change our marketing message effectively to target those who played a lot of EverQuest but who have ‘grown up' such that they have jobs, families, etc. that they cannot and will not play another EverQuest even though they enjoyed they game years ago.  We've done studies and it's not atypical of an old EQ player, when they hear about Vanguard, to assume that because many of the people involved in Vanguard's development worked on EQ as well, that Vanguard must simply be an EQ 3.  From that point they don't even give Vanguard another look.  They don't do any more research on the game.  They don't go to the official sites. They don't go to the affiliate sites.  Instead they think to themselves, "ah well, were I younger and had my life not changed, I'd give it a shot, but I just don't have the time for another EQ with better graphics right now."

And that's it - they don't give Vanguard another thought   EQ peaked in late 2001 at almost 500k subscribers.  In its lifetime it's sold over 2 million units.  Putting EQ in a vacuum and that's a lot of people who played and who aren't playing anymore.  And the total number of subscribers didn't start going down until sometime 2002.  I'm also pretty sure up until its peak that the average lifespan of a player was nearing 9-12 months.  And as I mentioned in my last lengthy post, this group of people who played but don't anymore could arguably be put into two sub-groups - those who look back fondly at those months and even years and those who don't.  I have read posts and received emails from people who claim to have played to max level and then quit very angry - the "I just played your game for 2 years and now I hate you" emails.  But realistically how big is that group?  Even if it was half (boggle) the other group is still pretty big.  So ignoring all of the people who have quit or who are growing bored of their current MMOG (WoW, FFXI, DAoC, etc) that need to be reached (and in a very different way, especially the WoW player), both a word of mouth and a formal marketing campaign targeting these people clearly needs to launched.  These people need to know that Vanguard does have the ‘EQ feel' in many ways but that it is much more soloable than EQ was, especially the early EQ days.  They need to know that you can play for short periods of time and advance.  They need to know that the ‘end game' is not all about raiding into the wee hours of the night.  Some subset of these people will still feel burnt out of MMOGs period, but I think there's a lot of people who haven't been reached and our and others research supports that.  False assumptions are being made by a lot of people.  The reality is that Vanguard *is* the game most of these people are looking for - it has the good they remember, but has eliminated a lot of the tedium and necessary long hours that don't fit into their lifestyle anymore.

Then there are the people who are growing weary of their current MMOG.  Given how much larger the MMOG gamespace has grown since EQ's zenith in 2001 (arguably 7 times as large worldwide, and at least 2-3 time as large in North America alone), we have to take advantage of this.  At some point these people are going to want to start a new MMOG (especially after the WoW expansion newness has worn out, which for most of the non-hard-core would be when you really have to start raiding in the expansion).  LoTR Online is an x-factor - reviews from beta testers seem to indicate that the game is more casual like WoW, a small game, and that it looks really good but can run on a lower end system much better than Vanguard (just as WoW can).  So at least for a time the more casual bored WoW player may migrate to LoTR Online.  How sticky (e.g. how long that game will hold onto players) is unknown, but I think it's safe to say that a significant percentage of the more casual bored WoW player will head to LoTR - at least first, given the franchise around it.  Conservatively this leaves the more hard core WoW player (which in Vanguard or EQ terms would be considered either a hard core or, more likely, a core gamer).  That number, even just taking the North American and European gamer is still potentially a large one and needs to be targeted (given Vanguard's high system specs, the time it will take to localize, and Blizzard's name recognition and pre-existing proven marketing ability in Asia, I wouldn't count that group, although a very significant one, until 2008 or so.  Targeting that group is for a future discussion).

Lastly, there's the very real issue of Vanguard's system specs, even for the core and hard core gamer in North America and Europe.  For a variety of reasons and mistakes on our part that I won't get into right now, Vanguard was released with system spec requirements that were too high for January 2007.  Continued optimization will help to a degree, but the game's big hope here is simply Moore's Law and that by the second half of 2007, and certainly by the end of the year, the system spec issue will have been greatly diminished.  The big problem that remains is that you still pretty much need a new system as opposed to, say, simply a new graphics card.  But eventually, gamers do replace their systems.  Given what Vista (especially the Ultimate edition) takes to really run, combined with other games that come out by the end of the year that really push technology, many people will be compelled to buy new systems.  Unlike EQ, which was one of the first hardware only games, Vanguard needs not only a fast graphics card, but also a system with pci-express, fast memory, a fast FSB, etc.  With EQ, you just needed to buy a Voodoo 1 or Voodoo 2 - the rest of your system is fine.  With Vanguard, however, just plugging the fastest AGP card into your 2-3 year old system doesn't cut it.  In fact, Vanguard runs pretty well on a 2 GB system with a decent pci-express video card and fast memory in a 2.6 GHz Pentium; conversely, run the game on an older AGP system, the fastest AGP card you can buy, and a 3.2 GHz CPU and you'll have framerate issues.  The game is simply not CPU bound, nor just graphics card bound, but rather mostly bound by the data that it needs to constantly move from the CPU to main memory to the graphics card, and then all the way back again.  It's all about the various bus speeds and caches - moving data around efficiently is arguably more important than processing that data on the CPU or GPU.   The only fix here, again, is time.  Vista (especially the Ultimate edition, which is what's being pushed to gamers) wants fast components.  Direct X 10 hardware and software will help a lot, especially when there is a DX10 version of Vanguard.  A native 64bit client of Vanguard will eventually help a lot too.  Bottom line:  by the end of 2007, a lot more people should have upgraded, especially if Microsoft succeeds with Vista and native DX 10 games.  And if they really push Gaming for Windows like they did, say, the Xbox 360, the end of 2007 and beginning of 2008 should be a very different landscape for PC games in general and Vanguard specifically.   Was the Vanguard tech ahead of its time?  Yes, and there has been a price to pay for that short term (although many people are able to play with older machines - why? Different configurations, different settings, different thresholds for lower framerates, etc.).  But MMOGs ideally never end and if you've architected your engine to both push the limits of existing and near future technology as well as easily employ future technologies, then you have a game that doesn't look dated one, two, even three plus years down the road.  And that's what we did with Vanguard - so we feel some pain now, but if we can keep the momentum going, this decision pays off in the long run (big time).

In summary, there are arguably a lot of people who by mid to end of this year in the MMOG gamespace for whom Vanguard could potentially be very attractive.  What the game needs is a re-launch of sorts, including targeted marketing campaigns, an all-around successful move by gamers to the next generation of hardware, continued good word of mouth ‘viral' marketing by those who are already playing, enjoying, and re-subscribing.  And all of this could and should ramp up by the end of the year, all the while the Vanguard team is putting in more content, the live team filling out high level content as well as adding to areas of the game's vast seamless world which are a bit empty.  Then a re-launch towards the end of the year plus the first expansion (which is looking like first quarter 200SMILEY8), one that would add RTS style city building, ship to ship combat, jousting, and a second ‘half' of the Kojanese Archipelago that makes ship travel meaningful - and by meaningful I mean not tedious, rewarding exploration, with lots of new areas (both in the existing world and in the extension of the archipelago).  And I'm talking about some re-use of existing art, combined with new art that fits into the existing continents, and then finally some all out new stuff - different styles of terrain (islands) and ocean to look at while making your journey to found a new player city while constantly being attacked by exotic sea creatures, leviathans, and other traditional members of fantasy and crypto-zoology.  Not to mention pirates with canons, or other players and their ships on the PvP servers.  And who knows, could be first expansion or second, but eventually you need to pull from Mesoamerican mythology, encounter empires based on Greco-roman architecture... it goes on and on, it's all planned out, and Vanguard can do all of it given sufficient time.  The tools have matured, both in terms of art and design, and the art process orders of magnitude more efficient because of years of Maya scripting, an in-house terrain generator that creates what you want as opposed to spitting out algorithmically generated hills and valleys, and an art team that has this process down pat - for example, they were able to re-create Tursh and Leth Nurae in a fraction of time it took them to create the original, smaller, and much less interesting ‘versions'.

So what does that mean again? Again, I apologize for not being able to go into details and it's the details that need to be worked out.  But I think it's safe to say that both Sigil and SOE see the potential of a mind blowing game by the end of the year.  What's needed, bottom line, is some time, and how to get that time is what's being worked out.  And so I still see a 500k+ game, I was just off by a year for a variety of reasons, some under my control, many not.  And I think SOE sees this as well.  To pull it off however, requires a funded and supported Sigil and a well marketed Vanguard with these different target audiences identified and solid plan on how to reach them all, and then a solid execution of said plan, hitting them hard, pushing these ‘WoW everywhere' point of purchase materials from the front to the very back..  In the meantime, the Vanguard that was launched in early 2007 continues to move forward, with much of what I've talked about patched in over time, and the rest in the first expansion (or re-launch, or whatever we all agree upon in terms of product and service placement).  Bottom line, Vanguard continues to march forward, a solid and fun game today, and an even better one tomorrow.  More ‘state of the game' posts by me, a regularly updated ‘In the Works' http://vgplayers.station.sony.com/inTheWorks.vm. And whatever kind of increased partnership between Sigil and SOE is necessary to make this vision a reality.  And again, as for what that means exactly, more on that later TM.

Precis min tanke Ceder. jag är så förbannat utled på lagg, buggar o annat ofärdigt så det behövs banne mig inte mkt för att få mig att avsluta mitt VG abonnemang. Och har man inte fattat att folk inte går på skitsnacket om att det är hårdvaran och inte deras sketna kod som är problemet så kommer nog VG saga bli en kort än!

Jag håller med er till viss del, gubbs.

Det som kanske framför allt skiljer min erfarenhet från de flesta övrigas så här långt, är att jag spelat säkert 80-90% solo. Nu är väl inte tanken att man ska spela solo i ett mmorpg, men det är bara sån jag är. Det var samma sak i World of Warcraft f.ö.

Solospel i Vanguard funkar väldigt bra, om man valt "rätt" klass.

Det stora problemet med VG är, vilket jag som vissa vet debatterat om en hel del på Silky Venoms forum, prestandan i grupp alt. när det är många spelare i närheten. De har helt enkelt gjort de mest detaljerade texturer och flest polygoner som någonsin skådats i något spel, vad gäller karaktärerna, vilket sinkar prestandan nåt oerhört i grupper/tätbefolkade områden.

Är detta en sunt val? Nja, inte i dagsläget, vilket vi ju sett flerfaldiga bevis på till dags dato.
De har däremot, tyvärr, satsat mindre på miljöerna. Jämför gärna med LOTRO (där har man lagt, så vitt jag kan bedömma utan att ha spelat spelet i verkligheten) stor vikt på miljöerna. Ett i mina ögon mycket klokt val, i alla fall i dagsläget.

För att riktigt uppskatta grafiken i VG så bör man spela i förstapersonsvy, något som inte är alltför vanligt i spel av den här typen. OM man gör det så ser man nog ganska snart att detta spel faktiskt är extremt välgjort åtminstone vad gäller karaktärerna. Att jämföra med ex. WOW ter sig närmast skrattretande, och det klår "t.o.m." ett spel som Guild Wars med hästlängder.

LOTRO, som i dagsläget är den stora konkurenten om man ser till nya spel i denna genre, har valt att köra på "säkra kort", dvs inte köra järnet på att bygga en extrem grafikmotor, utan deras spel är något som bef. wow-spelare kan hoppa till rakt av utan att behöva uppgradera sina system.

Så, vad är det största felet med VG?

Tja, det är många naturligtvis, med tanke på det skick spelet är i idag. Men att spelet släpptes minst ett halvår, för att inte säga ett år, för tidigt är nog spelets största dilemma. Att släppa en betaprodukt på marknaden, och därigenom få så oerhört mycket negativ kritik är fruktansvärt dumdistrigt.

Spelföretagen borde ha lärt sig kan man tycka. Precis samma sak som VG genomlider idag, led exempelvis EVE Online av i början, vilket ledde till att massor med spelare hoppade av för att aldrig komma tillbaka. EVE idag är något helt annat än det var när det släpptes, men övertyga de som var med från början om det - det går nästan inte.

Vad som talar för VG i ett längre perspektiv, är att spelet faktiskt är byggt från början som något som ska överglänsa det mesta på mmorpg marknaden. Huruvida de lyckas i slutändan är ju en sak, men ambitionen finns där, på ett helt annat sätt än i nuvarande och i närmsta framtiden kommande spel i genren.

Diplomatidelen, craftingsystemet, möjligheten till egna hus, strider till havs via egna byggda båtar/skepp, möjligheter till att ta över och äga hela städer, grafiken, komplexiteten osv. osv. visar på en enorm ambition spelets skapare har haft i åtanke sedan dag ett.

Många gamla woware kommer med stor sannolikhet gå över till det betydligt mer lättgreppade LOTRO, eftersom de så specifikt har riktat in sig på just denna målgrupp. LOTRO skulle lika gärna kunna kallas för WOW 1.5 eller 2.0, med tanke på de enorma likheter som spelet presenterar för denna målgrupp.

För min egen del, som hardcore tolkien-fan, så känner jag att rädslan för att bli besviken överstiger nyfikenheten vad gäller just LOTRO. Visst känner jag ett sug att prova, men om det enda jag blir erbjuden är just ett WOW 1.5 / 2.0, så känns det lika bra att stå över. Dessutom, ett WOW utan pvp del (pvp i WOW är enligt min mening den absolut bästa implementeringen av hur pvp ska fungera i denna typen av spel, hands down).

Slutord, i detta något förvirrande inlägg - jag tror på VG, jag har bestämt mig för att fortsätta spela det här spelet. Sen om det slutar med att jag blir ensam kvar från hela OG att lira VG så må det vara hänt, det finns säkert många andra (svenska) spelare där ute.
Är jag mer tålmodig än er övriga? Kanske. Med tanke på att jag med största sannolikhet sitter med det sämsta systemet utav oss som idag spelar VG så är det rent av troligt. :)

Oavsett, den som orkar med och inte ger upp spelet i första taget kommer att hitta mig därute!

Jag blir också kvar i VG. Jag kommer dock att börja fluffa till mitt spelande med andra spel såsom Guild Wars och en del singleplayerspel jag har liggande. Jag har för det mesta en bra upplevelse i VG, men det beror också på att jag bara rör mig i adventuringsfären, har en paladin som är en väldigt buggfri klass samt att min maskin puttar runt VG på balanced/high utan större problem. Utan tvivel tror jag att LOTRO är mycket mer strömlinjeformat och lättilgängligt, men frågan är hur länge det spelet håller? Finns ingen PvP och inga saker som player housing osv.

Jag följer dock utvecklingen av Age of Conan med stort intresse och kommer att ge detta spel stort utrymme i mitt spelande när det släpps.

Jag har (som ni märkt) lagt ner VG igen. Jag ville verkligen tro på det här spelet, men efter två helhjärtade försök att gilla spelet har jag gett upp för den här gången.

Spelet i sig är ju ganska så standard i dagsläget då lull-lullet inte är implementerat. Det skiljer sig inte nämnvärt från t.ex. DAoC. Visst är det betydligt snyggare, men jag spelar hellre ett grafiskt enklare spel som är lagfritt än ett snoffsig lagfest. Visst tillför den snyggare grafiken till en mer realistisk känsla, men det tappar man raskt när spelet börjar stamma eller när belöningen för ett uppdrag både är för fel klass och inte kan ges bort eller säljas till nån annan spelare.

Dessutom saknar jag RvR delen från DAoC som verkligen ger spelet en annan dimension.

Men jag gillar VG och kommer nog fortsätta ett tag till, det råkiga är ju att man måste antingen välja en soloklass som t.ex. necron eller söka sig till andra grupper då det är väldigt få OG kvar i spelet.

Edit: Posten blev mer negativ än det var tänkt. Spelet ÄR inte ospelbart, då det sällan laggar när man fightas utan i städer eller vid andra folkintensiva platser. Vet inte varför folk tröttnat på spelet, då de flesta spel har problem i början och jag har sett betydligt värre problem i andra nya spel. Största problemet för mig nu är bristen på andra OG att spela med då det är betydligt roligare att gruppa o snacka skit i TS än att sola, även om min necro-bitch är en elak liten djävul som troligtvis kommer att bli nerfad.

Orsaken till att jag lagt ner igen är nog främst att jag helt enkelt inte orkar med ett fullödigt mmo just nu. Jag har bränt ut mig 2 ggr om på WoW och vill helt enkelt inte behöva bekymra mig om skitsaker som reparicost och xp-skulder och annan skit. Jag vill kunna logga in, spela järnet efter 1 minut och kunna logga ut igen utan att behöva bekymra mig om vart jag parkerar gubben. Jag orkar inte med resandet eller att behöva lägga en timmas effektiv speltid bara för att rida tillbaka till en stad och leta upp en trainer. Allt detta är ju saker som jag tidigare gillat med mmo-spel, men just nu är det det rakt motsatta jag eftersöker.

Sen blir det ju inte mer lockande av att min disciple blev söndertrasad av nerfbatten, att spelet laggar apa så fort man ser andra spelare och att det är fult utan kantutjämning.

Därför passar GW mig helt perfekt just nu. Ett äkta casualspel.

Jag kommer finnas kvar i VG, men som jag skriv i ett annat ilägg så har sommarhalvåret andra saker som jag hellre prioriterar.
Sen kommer nog jag ha en nyare rigg till hösten att spela på.
Hazzard, du har nog glömt hur det var när vi var ute i RVR på DaoC, när spelet var nytt..   Jag glömmer det då inte, när vi tågade ifram 30 man 0,5-1 FPS över bergen...  Det var ospelbart då, men är förmodligen helt perfekt på dagens "riggar"
Jag kommer nog hålla ut året ut, och se vad som händer, och jag har ju mitt favvo som jag väntar på ... Warhammer online.

Att kunna kasta invisibility i strid låter aningen för mäktigt, så om det ändrat det nu så skulle jag nog kalla det att nu fungerar den som det var tänkt från början.

Dessa förändringar går jag och väntar på vad gäller min klass:

* Nerf av fear, på ett eller annat sätt. Att sola 4-5 dottars bossar ett par levlar högre än mig själv enbart pga att jag kan kasta fear upprepade ggr kommer att ändras så småningom.

* Kontroll av pet/minions när man ligger och spelar död (feign death). Det har varit snack om att så fort man feignar, så ska minions/pet försvinna. Som det är nu så kan jag styra dem som jag vill.

Today I would like to formally announce that SOE has acquired the assets of Sigil Games Online, including Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. As a part of this acquisition, we are bringing on approx 50 people from Sigil in order to insure that Vanguard continues to grow. SOE is dedicated to making sure that Vanguard is well taken care of and that we provide the same level of service we do for our other titles. In the near future we will come out with a publishing plan that will largely be driven by the strong player community that Vanguard has already built up. We plan on supporting Vanguard for many years to come, and you can expect many content updates as part of your subscription. Down the line we will of course be coming out with new expansion packs, but right now the focus is on making sure Vanguard is running the way it should be.

We are also officially opening up forums. In the past, our deal with Sigil didn't allow for this, but as with our other games we fill this is an important part of communicating with the playerbase. You can expect a strong presence from our community team as well as the development team members. While we realize that Sigil had said they wouldn't open up general forums, at SOE we fill this hampers our efforts to communicate effectively with the players. We will continue to support the fansites in a big way, and will be contacting many of them directly to discuss what this change means. By no means do we want to lose the strong fansite support by making this change, but we do think it's important to have a forum for players to communicate directly with SOE.

A few other items I wanted to mention

1. Brad McQuaid will be consultant to SOE as a creative advisor for Vanguard. Dave Gilbertson will be the person directly responsible for the day-to-day management of both the Sigil Carlsbad office as well as Vanguard.

2. We do not plan on making any major changes to Vanguard. Any changes are going to come from the team itself. We aren't mandating any big changes to the game. We've learned a thing or two with our experiences with the NGE and don't plan on repeating mistakes from the past and not listening to the players.

3. We do plan on spending a lot of time cleaning up legacy issues with Vanguard and making sure the game's performance improves.

By way of comparison, this team is approx. the same size as the EQ2 team and I feel like that team has done an amazing job improving EQ2 since it's launch. We intend to do the same thing for Vanguard and it is our hope that the players feel like we're doing right by them.

Introduction to David Gilbertson

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks here at Vanguard as we get integrated into the SOE family. As you can probably imagine, it can get a little hectic as we get everyone set-up with email along with getting offices, cubicles, and computers moved around. I had hoped to get this letter of introduction out to you sooner, but between integration fun and a bout with the stomach flu it took me a little longer than I expected. So here I am. My name is David Gilbertson and I am a recovering crunch-aholic. I’ve been working on Vanguard since the beginning, some 5+ years ago. I’ve had my hand in most aspects of Vanguard with most of my later time spent producing. I’m looking forward to continuing working with Vanguard and our team as the producer and Director of Development with SOE.

The integration process is ongoing, so please have a little patience with us as we get everything up and rolling. We haven’t forgotten about you! We released an update last week and we are working on another update this week to fix some exploits. While we are working on a Game Update for the upcoming weeks, we are mainly focusing on bug fixes and polish. We have come a long, long way since release, but we know we have a ways to go still.

One of the first things on the list is planning out the best way to merge servers. We should have an announcement in the next few weeks on what the plan is. You, our players, have been asking for it and it's needed. The world of Telon needs be a healthy a place with plenty of players to group, trade and adventure with. That’s our number one priority.

We are also working on improving performance across the board. Programming is working on optimizations while Art is optimizing all the NPC humanoids. When the latter is completed, you should see a significant boost in performance whenever you see NPC’s. The Design department is fixing bugs as fast as they can in addition to adding Raid content to the game.

In the not so distant past, our communication to you certainly wasn’t the best. Going forward that will change, I will do my best to level with you and set realistic expectations.

So, I want to say thank you on behalf of the Vanguard team and SOE, for your patience and for being a part of the Vanguard Community. We are excited about the new possibilities and we hope you will join us for the upcoming adventures. I know I’m looking forward to it.

Here are the details on the server merge. We don’t have a firm date as we are still getting all the back-end details worked out. The intent is to have them done within the next three weeks. We will announce a date as soon as we have it.

Please feel free to comment as I know you will. I will try and clear up questions as they arise. I realize that not everyone will be happy with all of the decisions, but I’m open to suggestions if someone presents a better idea and it’s something that is feasible for us to implement in time.

 

Servers

    * There will be 2 US PVE, 1 EU PVE, and 1 US PVP server.
          o Thunderaxe, Woefeather, and Gulgrethor would merge into server A PVE
          o Targonor, Hilsbury, and Shidreth would merge into sever B PVE
          o Tharridon, Varking, Flamehammer and Frengrot would merge into sever C PVP FFA
          o Gelenia and Infineum would merge into server D EU PVE
          o For Florendyl we will be soliciting feedback via a poll and discussion as to whether or not the players think it should be merged.
               1. We are open to considering the option of leaving it up with the understanding that the population is way under what it needs to be to be healthy but we wouldn’t recommend it.

 

    * All existing servers will go away and everyone will be moved to new servers.
    * We will post a poll so you can vote on the new server names.
    * PVP players will be able to move to PVP OR PVE servers.
    * PVE players will only be able to move to PVE servers.
    * PVP rule set will be FFA.

 

Characters that have not chosen a server will be moved based on popularity of servers.

    * US characters moved this way will be on a US server.
    * EU players moved will be on an EU server.
    * PVP players will be moved to the new PVP server.
    * Each character will get one free server move after the merge.

 

Character Naming

    * Characters name priority is based on
          o First created, if also played within the last 30 days
          o Last Played
    * Those characters that have name collisions will be marked, and upon next login will have to choose a new name before that character can log in.


 

Housing

    * The price for the player’s plot is refunded to the player in coin.
    * The resources used to generate the house are refunded to the player via the housing resource escrow.
    * The current upkeep balance will be refunded to the character
    * Fixtures and items in the house will be placed in the escrow.

 Boats

    * Boats will be marked as needing to be named.

 VGPlayers issues

    * We are still working out the specifics on this.

 Corpses left in the world

    * All corpses will go away.
    * Any items left on corpses will go to your escrow account.
    * Exp on the corpse will be returned to you.

 Mail

    * Any pending mail will be returned to sender.

 Friends list

    * We are still working out the specifics on this.

 Guild names

    * We are still working out the specifics on this.

 Market items

    * Items in the market will be returned via mail.

 

One to Two weeks prior to the consolidation, players will be able to type a slash command (MOVESERVER) that will select what server they want that character to reside on.

Nja, jag tror inte att skillnaden i hur mycket folk det är på servern är så stor från tisdag till onsdag! :)

Det kan även vara inbillning, men det var i alla fall känslan igår. Inget revolutionerande dock!

It’s time for an update as I promised last week. I had hoped to get this posted up earlier but the patch gremlins had other ideas. Integration is moving along very well. We are getting Vanguard hooked into the various areas like QA (Yeah!) and forums.

I have heard from more than a few people expressing concern as to whether or not SOE is really committed to seeing Vanguard be the successful game we all know it can be. The team has had multiple resources thrown at it in an effort to get us up and running as quickly as possible from QA to marketing and PR. So put simply, they are.

Ok, let’s get to the meat of it.

Welcome to the new age of Vanguard! Otherwise known as “What is the Vanguard team working on because it sure doesn’t seem to be tails!”

In our continuing effort to develop a better rapport with the community, we will be posting our milestone goals as well as our game update patches going forward. The awesome apart of that is you, the community, will be able to see what the team is working on and offer feedback via polls and discussion threads. This works out great for both of us, you are no longer left wondering what on earth the Vanguard team is working on and we get some great directed feedback on upcoming priorities, features, and content.

Milestones

Going forward we will be posting on www.VGplayers.com the teams current milestone goals and tasks. An individual milestone typically spans about 6 weeks in length. Please keep in mind that some tasks will spill over into several milestones. As the tasks are completed, they will assigned to a Game Update patch and be pushed out to the Test Server and then to the Live Servers.

 Game Updates

We will also be moving to a more consistent patch schedule. Approximately every 6 weeks we will push a game update. This game update will be comprised of some percentage of new content, new features, and new art that was completed in the previous milestones. We will still be patching in the weeks in-between the game updates with bug fixes, performance upgrades, and everything else not covered.

We will get the milestone goals posted as soon as possible with the contents of the game update patch following a few days later. As always, feedback is appreciated.

Vanguard’s Milestone 1 goals.

    * Performance / optimization increases
    * Fix bugs
    * Raid content
    * Finish features that were almost complete before the SOE acquisition occurred.


Here are some of the tasks the team is working that will help us achieve those goals.

Design

Bug Team

The bug team is, as one would imagine, working on bugs. Bugs being worked on range from big things like broken quests and abilities that are not working to minor things like typos and missing text. At the end of this milestone, players should be able to observe a noticeable reduction in bugs. High profile fixes will be mentioned in patch or update notes while the majority of other bugs fixed will go in quietly.

Content Team

The content team is busy working on one of the premiere raid dungeons for Vanguard. The Ancient Port Warehouse in Thestra is currently in the works. The team is currently planning population for group and raid content as well as itemization, and diplomacy population. The art for the dungeon has already been finished.

Diplomacy Team

The diplomacy team is currently in the beginning stages of converting the diplomacy system from a skill-based system to a level based system. There will be no huge diplomacy gameplay changes, the switch is more about representing the same information in a different (better) way. Aruspex will be posting the details in another thread.

The diplomacy team is also working on putting together some cool looking tier 4 clothing options as well as adding House quests.

Crafting Team

The crafting team is putting in the quests to allow crafters to learn how to create Guild Houses. Yes, that’s right; Guild houses are finally coming to Vanguard!

Programming  (extra superfluous words have been removed)

    * Fixing memory leaks
    * Fixing bugs that cause CTD’s / client memory issues.
    * Fix the last remaining bugs for Brotherhoods
    * Raid UI and tools support
    * A more intuitive LFG tool with better functionality
    * Rest exp.
    * Changing Diplomacy from skill based to level based.

Art

Environment Team

The team’s primary task this milestone is working what we’re calling the “trial island”. The island is being built using highly optimized existing assets in an effort to establish a new art content pipeline that is able to produce, in laymen’s terms – cool looking stuff that won’t make your computer explode – quicker than we’ve previously been able to do so.

The overall benefit for the trial island is that we are working on heavily optimizing existing assets. The knowledge learned through this will then be applied to existing art assets in the game therefore increasing performance. In addition we will be using the completed island (which will feature a couple dungeons as well as diplomacy and crafting content) as a free downloadable “Vanguard demo”.

Character Team

The character team is optimizing the humanoid NPC’s that are used in villages, cities, dungeons, etc. which will give a significant performance boost.

The character team is also working on new armor sets for use in an upcoming high end raid dungeon.

Lyssnade på en intressant intervju med David Gilbertson som Überguilds Radio har gjort. Det pratades om en hel del, men det mest intressanta tyckte jag var när de började prata prestanda, och de förbättringar de jobbar på inom det området.

Han tog som exempel att när man går in i Tursh, så är grafiken idag upplagd på så vis att om där står ex. ett bord, så ska grafiken till bordet hämtas från "paketet med bord". Likaså vad gäller träd, byggnader, npc, allt.

Detta innebär i dagsläget att när du går in i Tursh, så ska grafikdata laddas från hårddisken från uppemot 200 sådana här paket, vilket leder till en massa laddande från hårddisken, och därmed dålig prestanda.

Det de jobbar med nu (och som kanske släpps redan denna vecka) är en uppdatering där man optimerar områdena, så att istället för att ha ett paket med bord, ett annat för stolar, ett tredje för träd osv, så försöker man klämma in allt i optimerade paket för det specifika området, dvs ett paket kan då komma att innehålla flera olika saker i ett.

Han nämnde skillnaden som enorm i de tester de gjort, och för att ta exemplet med Tursh igen så hade antalet paket att ladda in grafikdata från reducerats från drygt 200 till runt ett dussin.

För övrigt så lägger de nu i stort sett all kraft på att optimera och fixa buggar, istället för att släppa en massa nytt innehåll. Två stora raiddungeons är inplanerade innan årsskiftet, och flying mounts ska ligga max två månader bort enligt den nuvarande planen.

Vidare kan nämnas att de jobbar hårt på att sammanfläta crafting och diplomacy mer med själva äventyrandet. Ex. kan en raid som tar med sig en duktig diplomat, kanske övertyga en vakt om att släppa in dem bakvägen till en boss, och därmed slippa slåss mot en massa trashmobs på vägen.

En crafter skulle kunna hitta en smedja, och tillverka en nyckel till en låst dörr, och därmed få samma fördel, eller tillverka en bro över en stor ravin för att slippa ta en enorm omväg osv.

Gilbertson lät väldig entusiatisk kring de möjligheter detta skulle kunna innebära.

CODING NOTES

- Fixed a client crash that sometimes happened when selecting a crafting recipe.
- Reduced the frequency of garbage purges. They will now only occur once your client has under 100MB of system memory free, and there is more "stuff" to purge. This will reduce the amount of "hitching flashes" to only the times when you really need them to prevent the game from crashing.
- Textures should now take up a great deal less system memory, reducing the number of crashes from out of memory errors substantially.

Fan ta dig... här satt jag med Yankie doodle doos osv osv.....  En Yenkare som var rätt glad i gasen och ett fruntimmer som jag inte kunde höra vad hon sa, men det var säkert bra.. 
Nå VG lever och det är faktiskt 2 lirare som spelar för fullt.
jag kommer nog åter vad det lider... Just nu spelr jag Gothic 3 och det mina herrar är ett riktigt RPG utan MMO   :)

These are pretty exciting times for Vanguard right now. The team is currently putting the finishing touches on Phase 2 and 3 of Update 3 after having launched an astounding performance update in Phase 1. We received a lot of great feedback from you on Phase 1, and we're going to continue our focus in delivering consistently high quality, engaging and in-demand content in each update.

I'd like to introduce myself to many of you that do not know me. My name is Thom Terrazas, Producer for Vanguard. In a few words, I've been with Sony Online Entertainment over 9 years (unofficially). During that time, I have and still do work, with some of the greatest people in the MMO world of whom I intend to solicit feedback from and use to my advantage. One of the best things that I have learned in this industry is to work closely with your team, while at the same time allow them to do their jobs and show off their talents – and we have some amazingly passionate and talented developers working on Vanguard. I give them a lot of credit for launching an MMO of this caliber, and you'll continue to see their talents shining through in our future updates.

The Team's Current Focus

In the past few weeks, the team has been examining all of the fundamental game mechanics and discussing what we think it is fun to play and what is not. The great thing is we are not holding anything back – everything is fair game!. So something that may have been perceived as off limits in the past, is now an open for debate and is able to be measured on the fun-factor-scale. At the end of the day, we all want to say we created a great game that is fun to play – and of course, we want you to be the measuring stick of whether or not and to what extent we meet that goal. Without you, we wouldn't be here.

One of our current priority tasks is setting the Vision for Vanguard. We've come up with dozens upon dozens of elements that we believe will factor into determining the future path of Vanguard but it will take a few more weeks of fine tuning within our internal departments before we distill it down to the vision and have an agreed on list of critical success factors by which to measure all new development against. I'm not able to share the details at the moment but what I can say is that the desired end result of this exercise is to ensure that we produce high-quality game content and features that first and foremost fun to play.


Areas that we're going to make changes to

Optimizations; stability; optimizations; stability; optimizations; stability. I may be wrong but I think I see a pattern here. J Hey let's face it, Vanguard had some performance issues but we've made huge leaps since launch. If you've played since beta, you'll know what I'm talking about. If you had problems at launch and you haven't been back recently, you've got to give Vanguard another try. See for yourself how much has improved.


This bone is connected to that bone…Well, not any more!

Future optimization work you'll be seeing from us is focused on enhancing and optimizing our Player Character models. If you have a weak stomach, you may want to look away for a minute if you are closely attached to your character. (just kidding J ) Seriously though, we're going through our first phase of character model improvements that will eliminate unnecessary bones. What does this mean for you? This means that your computer will not have to work as hard to render each character which means faster performance all around.


We're bringing sexy back…

After phase one is complete, we'll be moving onto phase two where we'll be increasing the visual quality of our character models. Not only will we be delivering you a character that is more appealing to the eye, but we'll also be delivering a model that utilizes less resources and is easier on your computer. Again, win-win for everyone! A brief update on this is that we're almost complete on our visual improvements with human characters and we'll be moving onto adjustments to animations and to the different body types.

Grouping! Traveling! "Dude, where's my car mount?"

Holy smokes ~ the world of Telon is huge! And we recognize this. There are some fundamental challenges with a world of this size. It's difficult to meet up with other players on opposite sides of the world (especially if you haven't been there before); there are large areas between points of interest; the Riftway system doesn't display where and how you can use it ahead of time and you have to have a mount fairly early in order to explore and travel, etc… If you and your buddy log in to play together and you find yourselves spending more time trying to connect with each other than actually playing, there is something missing. It should be easy to group up in Vanguard. We know there are problems and we're discussing how to fix them right now. (Details coming soon!)


Feel rewarded

We're looking into the loot drop percentages and realize we've been a little cheap when it comes to loot rewards. We're going to tune this upward particularly at the lower levels and examine the mid and higher levels as well. At the end of your play session, we want you to feel like you accomplished something and were rewarded for the time you invested while playing.


Feel accomplished

Whether you log in and play for 30 minutes or for 3 hours, you should see and feel that you advanced your character. Now don't get me wrong. We don't want to create an "easy button" when it comes to leveling up but we definitely need to expedite the experience gain cycle to increase fun factor. We've made some steps already by adding Rest Experience and the ability to share experience within your Brotherhood, so we'll keep those in mind when discussing the percentage increase that we should take it up to in the near future.


Tactics

Vanguard doesn't have enough tactics. We want to make changes in our combat tactics and one tactic or ability that comes to mind is Stun. Stunning an NPC while they are in the middle of casting a spell needs to be available during battle. This is an essential part of warfare tactics and we're going to fix items similar to this.


Death Penalties, do we need them to be so severe?

We're talking about this now and we think that there are enough penalties to dieing that we don't need to sock it to you with a loss of experience. I know there may be some purists or hard-core gamers out there that may disagree, but we think that we can offset the experience loss with item degradation combined with the hurdles of traveling back to the location where you died.


What else is coming?

In no particular order, here are a number of topics we are evaluating for change and improvement:

    * Additional player housing
    * Improved map; map icons that distinctly show points of interest
    * City and Dungeon maps
    * Readily available information showing you where you can adventure at your level
    * Factions in towns
    * Consistency - Streamlining hand off quests that lead you in the proper direction for character progression
    * Changing some buff spells to group based
    * Combat Visual Timing – Improve the timing on combat responsiveness (when you click on an ability, the action performed is in sync)
    * Player power curve versus NPC power curve
    * The ease of obtaining bags (especially at lower levels)
    * Additional high-end content – Raid and Non-Raid content
    * Increasing the Quest Journal size – Also adding organizational tabs to distinguish Adventuring quests from Diplomacy and Crafting quests
    * Regional banks – remove them!
    * UI improvements
    * Alternate form of currency – Special "coins" to redeem at certain Vendors for obtaining items such as adventuring, diplomacy cards, titles, potions, etc.
    * Alternate advancement or specialization for your character


How do you get a say in all of this?

I think I've exposed many topics that we'll be working on in the near future. I hope that you will find some of these issues at the top of your list of desired changes as well. However, if they are not at the top of your list, please feel free to post your comments regarding this newsletter in the discussion thread on our Vanguard forums.

Also, we're going to be posting more frequently on the forums to keep you informed and to answer questions that are on topic with our development focus. We understand that you have valuable feedback and when you do not hear a response back on a topic, it can be very frustrating. We're responsible for keeping you informed and we'll make changes in that area.

Prestandan i spelet har ju som sagt förbättrats avsevärt jämfört med hur det var i början, men fortfarande återstår mycket jobb på den fronten. Men jag spelar faktiskt med stor behållning med high settings i 1280x1024 MED ljudet på numera! :)

Ett stort projekt som de håller på med nu är bland annat att trimma Khal, och samtidigt göra det snyggare!

Server Downtime:  Wednesday, January 9th – 5:00 AM PST

All Vanguard servers will be brought down Wednesday morning at 5:00 am PST for a restart. During this period, the remaining characters in the transfer queue will be moved to their new server. In addition, the holiday features will be turned off (this includes the bonus experience.) As mentioned before, all house and personal items should remain in game, as well as Randolph, though he will no longer be able to take flight.
The downtime should not exceed four hours, with the servers up and ready to play by 9:00 am PST. We will update VGPlayers and Vanguard Announcements if any further downtime is needed.

Happy Birthday, Vanguard!

On January 30th, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is celebrating its one year anniversary! For those of you who have been traveling the world of Telon, you'll be in for a special treat!

All players will be able to choose one of three bags, representing each sphere of the game. Choose wisely, as you will only be able to claim a single bag per account.

Avarem's Messenger Bag
This is the bag of Avarem, famed messenger of Telon. His swift feet made him a legend in the realm of delivery.

Equipping this bag will increase your run speed.

Silius' Enchanted Utility Pouch
A bag used by the master crafter Silius. Said to be a sadist, Silius' insatiable hunger for crafting made him a legend in the world of Telon. Some even say this bag is made from the skin of crafters which is why it seems to enhance the base attributes of the person wearing it.

Equipping this pouch will increase your crafting attributes.

Jansan's Valise of Ages
This valise was used by the great diplomat known as Jansan. His accomplishments have been lost in the winds and nowadays are nothing more than fairy tales told to aspiring diplomats. Of these stories there is one about a valise that granted him great presence and held an endless amount of information.

Equipping this valise will grant you 40 presence.


We're also working on the first of many veteran rewards which will be making their way into the game soon. Players will be granted a special title in addition to other gifts that will be available to claim. These veteran rewards will remain in the game, so if you haven't quite reached a mark yet, you'll still be able to claim them when you do!

Cake will also be on hand so that everyone can help celebrate Vanguard's one year anniversary! We can't thank the players enough for making the world of Telon what it is today. Your dedication and contributions to the game and its community are invaluable. We look forward to many more years of fun and excitement!

"Take a look at what's in store for Game Update 4!

The Vanguard team has plenty of updates planned for the 2008 year; the first of many will be Game Update 4 which is already well under way in terms of development. Those who played the game over the holidays had the chance to pick up a festive flying mount known as Randolph. Adventurers of all levels traveled the skies of Telon, guided by a reindeer mount who took flight during the Festival of Gloriann. With the holidays behind us, Randolph now remains grounded, but those of you who enjoyed a personal flying mount will be excited to learn that the much anticipated flying mount quest will be available with Game Update 4! It certainly won't be easy, but the reward will definitely be worth the risk!

PC optimizations are in the works! The first phase is underway and will be evident with the release of the next update. What does this mean for you? Well, some bones are being removed from character models in order to ensure that a variety of helmets can fit correctly on player's heads. Yes, visible helmets are making their long awaited debut in Vanguard! We managed to sneak a few sample shots of what the art team is currently working on. Although not quite complete, you can see just how fantastic these helms are going to look when finished and in game!

I och med dagens patch, så verkar en årslång frustration äntligen vara över:

- Necromancer - Fixed a bug with Necro Abomination pet graft abilities not working after chunking.

Det är nästan så man fäller en liten tår! ;)

Jag undrar jag..  Buggen fannns ju inte när jag spelade Necro i betan. Fast det ska bli skönt att detta funkar. det är irritereande att behöva jaga upp en ny "pett" efter varje chunk

Nä, det har jag gjort innan jag sluta spela och gick det inte den gången tänker jag ICKE betala för en månad bara för pröva igen. :)

Se så Prunet, det är dags att komma tillbaka till VG nu! :)

Förutom att EQ2 flyter på bättre än VG, vad mer talar för det gamla spöket? ;)

Mja... Ett spel som känns levande, ett någorlunda stort comunity, 3 expansioner med nya landområden, questar och räder, balancerade klasser, fler raser, mycket mer kläd och rustningsval, ett väl fungerande mentoreringssystem för gruppning med olika levlar och en massa andra saker.

Men skämt åsido - Jag har tittat runt på olika forum och det verkar vara en försvinnande del av vanguardspelarna som tycker att det skett några ordentliga förbättringar på det året VG funnits, så jag lär nog vänta ett år till. Jag kan inte komma på en enda sak jag saknar med spelet förutom er då förstås.

Game Update 4 idag! Blir intressant att se förändringarna de genomfört. Och äntligen finns det permanenta flygfän att införskaffa - VG ska ses från luften! :)

Cities across Telon have had their halls decked and the Randolph the Flying Reindeer is back just in time to celebrate the winter holiday events, the Festival of Gloriann!  Players whose accounts have been inactive for 45 days or more have been reactivated now through January 31, 2009 at 11:59 PM.  To join the action simply log into your account!   Check out all the decorated houses and guild halls or simply take part in collecting the gifts and goodies spread across the land.

Jag har nu installerat VG igen, eftersom SOE bjussar på en gratismånad nu i och med senaste uppdateringen. Det är alltför mycket nytt som hänt för att jag ska orka redogöra för det här, men jag kan väl i alla fall nämna att ny level cap är 55, och att spelet går som en dröm på nya datorn.

Får se vad jag tycker efter att ha kört igen några veckor, men suget efter VG har funnits där hela tiden! :)

Man ska tydligen klara sig rätt bra som solo. Det gjorde man på min tid med, så där kan det bara blivit enklare kan jag tro.

Jag minns inte heller vad mina gubbar hette, vad mitt konto eller lösen var. Har för mig att jag hade en Templar som hette Clemens von Klapp, och en fullständigt värdelös Disciple som hette något asiatiskt. . .

Åh, jag orkar inte ens tänka på hur många gigabyte patchar det går åt, innan man kan logga in.

Jag installerade det igår, via trial download som jag hade sedan tidigare. Tog nog ett par timmar, kollade inte så noga då jag lät burken stå på över natten. Det var i alla fall klart i morse! ;)

Min main heter ju i alla fall Airo Drad, ifall ni glömt bort det, numera medlem i gillet Heroes of the flame. Jag har åtminstone ett par alts kvar i gamla Old Gents gillet också, minns inte just nu vad de heter dock...

Skillnaden i spelet nu mot för hur det var då när de allra flesta lämnade det är i alla fall väldigt stor, så har man inget bättre för sig så kan det helt klart vara värt en andra (eller som i mitt fall tredje) runda. Gratis till juli någon gång om jag fattat det hela rätt.

Nu har även Vanguard fått det suveräna mentorsystemet, liknande det som finns i EQ2! Bara att köra igång igen, vettni' - det här spelet rockar! :)

Tja, det kan ju bli tufft förstås. Ni får spela extra långsamt, och inte klicka så frenetiskt på era möss, så tror jag det kan funka! :)

Döm av min förvåning när jag loggar in bara för att finna mitt konto som det var när jag slutade,,orange gear är unlocked,,väskor mounts charslots,,rubbet, så vitt jag kan se har jag inte några restriktioner utom möjligen dyrare mailporto och AH avgifter o_O
Tydligen får man behålla allt man hade som före detta betalande kund..

Why the long face you may ask?
Well!! det är Sony entertainment vi pratar om,,bolagen som näckade min necro i EQ2 och krävde riktiga pengar av mig för att få använda det jag en gång kämpat timvis i raid för att skaffa.

Positivt överraskad alltså, nya konton drabbas ju säkerligen av restriktionerna, vilka är förvånansvärt små ändå o_O (för att vara Sony)

Hur som,,info för uttråkade människor i väntan på nästa OS (*galanskaparna referens) eller som i mitt fall GW2.
Dock är ju VG fortfarande så snyggt o mysigt så det blir nog att samköra det med GW oxå för variationen skull =P

Så var det då slutligen dags, Vanguard läggs ner den 31 juli i år. Dags för Airo att bege sig ut på ett sista äventyr och från luften beskåda den fantastiska värld som kallades Telon...
