http://io9.com/5385552/2012-hysteria-driving-teens-to-consider-suicideJust think: on December 22nd, 2012, when the world is still here, people will have no more doomsday prophecies to latch on to. There will be no more excuses for this kind of fear. #2012
@Anekanta: Jokes on you. Im starting my April 11 2024 apocalypse theory.
Repent for the random day I have chosen is upon us! #2012
@Anekanta: My theory is that the Mayans will show up in a time machine on 12/22/2012 and give us the rest of their calendar.
"Super sorry. Just got lost in paperwork. Here you go. What's with all the candlelight vigils?" #2012
@OW-Holmes: Bringer of Fear: Sure, burst my optimistic bubble, like a gigantic meteor striking the Earth and rending it in twain! Just wait till the true judgement day in 2032, when ye shall be cast out for your practical joking and... er, hang on a second...
@Atomictao: I hope it comes with pictures of bikini-clad Mayan ladies

@Anekanta: Fun fact: the highest ever rating on the Torino impact hazard scale was the asteroid 99942 Apophis which for a while had the potential impact Earth in 2029 (although 2029 has been cleared, there's still a chance it could swing back a get us in 2036). The name Apophis didn't come from the Egyptian god, but from the evil alien from Stargate SG-1.
True story.
I just thought it's kind of funny that the whole human race could have been wiped out by an asteroid named by a couple of Gaters . . .@Atomictao: Is it strange that I imagined those Mayans having a British accent when they deliver that message? #2012
@Anekanta: Hey, don't forget the 2039 UNIX bug. (I hear a team of dedicated time travelers is on the case, though.) #2012
@lightninglouie: I just hope they remember the cardinal rule of open source time travel projects: No Killing Hitler!

@Makidian: Not at all. All foreigners who speak English do so with an English accent. It's the law. #2012
